Our Concerns
Our Southern Gateway - McCabe Street
Matilda Bay Frontage (Stirling Hwy) with a proposed new Development Superimposed

The Matilda Bay Brewery & the OneSteel sites lie either side of the entrance to McCabe Street at Stirling Highway. The developments being proposed will draw a huge amount of new traffic into McCabe Street and consequently the intersection.

In late 2022, Rocky Bay Inc. advised the community that they intended to move out of Mosman Park, sell the site and would build a new headquarters in Belmont (since cancelled). In mid 2025 a developer led Scheme of Amendment (SOA) was approved, which specified maximum heights at 5 storeys through the centre of the block and two to three storeys in the perimeter spaces.
In September 2025, Curtin Heritage advised us that they had purchased the site and subsequently noted that they largely intended to keep to the new SOA (above). Various concepts were floated at discussion meetings with the community, which were mostly found to be appealing and largely assuaged the communities original fears regarding high-rise blocks on the site.
Memorial Hall / Camelot is probably Mosman Park's best-known building. It has extensive maintenance problems and is the subject of noise complaints from neighbours. Is it time for an upgrade?

The three Railway Crossings at Jarrad Street, Salvado Street and Victoria Street have been well documented as hazardous intersections and ones that have not been improved by the recent installation of the bicycle track. Various solutions have been proposed, ranging from an underpass at Wellington Street to the sinking of the railway from Grant Street to North Fremantle. A solution needs to be addressed urgently.

The re-development of the Wellington Heights / IGA site (MosLane) has now commenced, however there are still some hurdles to jump. We will be watching progress closely in order to add pressure for the best outcome for the community wherever possible.

Some twenty plus years ago the Town's northern section had power placed underground. Since then, the Town's administrations have been agitating for funding to allow underground power to be installed in the southern section. The latest timescale proposed indicates that may not happen until the early 2040's!

The State's Planning system has been largely destroyed by overzealous governments listening extensively to developers, who only have one thing on their minds. We would like to see the resumption of a more orderly, predictable and respectful planning system that listens to all parties and produces a better city. The recent (November 2025) announcement by Mr John Carey regarding 800m development circles around local railway stations only emphasises the complete antagonism towards local residents and the absolute lack of planning procedures that will be followed.
